“Yes, that’s actually a mannequin dressed in streetwear with a monkey’s face. Australian artist Abdul Abdullah’s works primary deal with the experience of an outsider in society. This Kabinett showcase (a section dedicated to highlighted artists) sees the lone figure at the end of a row of chairs, waiting for something happen. In front of it, is a series of paintings consisting of cartoon characters set against dramatic wave scenes, pointing to the vastness and difficulty of the obstacles ahead. It’s both meditative and oppressive at the same time.”
TimeOut Hong Kong rounds up the 12 best things to see at Art Basel Hong Kong 2019, highlighting our Kabinett presentation with Abdul Abdullah.
