Abdul Abdullah at Biennale of Australian Art
15 Sep 2018
“Born in Western Australia, and now living on the east coast, Abdullah has had great success since he came to attention in the art world more than a decade ago. He works across painting, photography, video and performance and is in some big collections across the country, being well known for exploring elements of his Muslim identity as a seventh-generation Australian. The wedding photos have been especially popular, toying with our cultural perceptions and riffing on the aesthetic style of traditional Malaysian weddings: luxuriously styled, and rich with the art of celebration.”
The Sydney Morning Herald features Abdul Abdullah’s Wedding series as part of the Biennale of Australian Art (BOAA) at The Art Gallery of Ballarat. BOAA is on view from 21 September to 6 November 2018. Read the full article by Andrew Stephens here.
