Ames Yavuz now represents the Estate of Rosemary Laing
7 Feb 2025
Ames Yavuz is honoured to announce the representation of Rosemary Laing (1958–2024), a pioneering artist who redefined contemporary Australian photography.
Laing’s visionary practice is characterised by meticulously constructed, cinematically scaled images that interrogated the intersection of human presence and the Australian landscape. Her ambitious creative vision was realized through elaborate productions that merged performance, photography, and environmental intervention. Her commitment to real-time, performance-based staging resulted in striking, immersive works that challenged the boundaries of photography and image-making. Her work has been exhibited extensively in major institutions and biennales worldwide, securing her place as one of Australia’s most influential contemporary artists.

Opening 15 February 2025, our Sydney gallery on Commonwealth Street will present Rosemary Laing: A Dynamic Lens. This exhibition celebrates Laing’s enduring legacy through a carefully curated presentation of never-before-seen archival imagery and ephemera, offering unprecedented insight into the artist’s distinctive methodology. Alongside this rare archival material, the exhibition features significant works, including one dozen unnatural disasters in the Australian landscape, and her acclaimed bulletproofglass series. The exhibition coincides with the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia’s presentation of Laing’s work in Artists in Focus, creating a unique moment to experience the breadth of her practice.
Continuing the celebration of Laing’s practice, Ames Yavuz will present the critically acclaimed a dozen useless actions for grieving blondes at Art Basel Hong Kong from 26–30 March 2025.

Laing’s work is held in over 50 public collections across the world, including all major Australian public art institutions, as well as Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid, Spain), 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art (Kanazawa, Japan), Fonds National d’Art Contemporain (France), and The Art Institute of Chicago (USA).
The Rosemary Laing Estate is represented by Galerie Lelong in the USA.
