Ames Yavuz is pleased to return to Art Fair Philippines with a dynamic showcase of celebrated Filipino artists across two exhibition spaces.
Featuring new sculptures, internationally acclaimed husband-and-wife duo Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan will present a curated solo booth titled Devices spotlighting the ever-evolving and complex narrative of their iconic Left-Wing Project. Continuing to explore themes of migration, displacement, and community, the work resonates deeply with the global conversation around identity and belonging. Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan (b. 1965, 1962, Philippines) are known for their uniquely collaborative approach to artmaking, in which they address themes of change and memory by way of community engagement. Collaboration has always been an integral part of their practice, not just as partners in marriage and art practice, but as a tool to give voice to underrepresented and marginalised communities. Many of their projects include workshops with groups directly affected by the subject matter explored in the work. The award-winning artists have received critical acclaim for their large-scale installations, which are often constructed using materials both abstract and referential, such as recycled cardboard, found objects and personal belongings—items that reflect the challenges and hopes characteristic of the migratory experience.
Our second presentation at booth 47 features new paintings, sculptures and mixed-media installations by Raena Abella, Vic Balanon, Rocky Cajigan, Lec Cruz, Kawayan de Guia, Johanna Helmuth, Gene Paul Martin, Yeo Kaa, Enzo Razon, Jel Suarez, and Miguel Lorenzo Uy. Titled Permutations, this group exhibition fosters cross-cultural dialogue, offering a platform for voices that engage with both local and global perspectives, delving into the personal and collective consciousness in Philippine contemporary art. Permutations offers a compelling exploration of identity, personal histories, and society at large, providing a space for reflection on both personal and collective experiences.
