Ames Yavuz is pleased to return to ART SG with a presentation that brings together artists challenging the definitions of Southeast Asia, celebrating the dynamism, adaptability and pluralism of the region.
Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan will suspend a monumental installation of reclaimed birdcages, exploring themes of migration and confinement. Nicholas Ong and Celine Lee engage deeply with their materials, using light and thread to transform canvas. Both Abdul Abdullah and Alvin Ong will unveil new paintings that tap into the mythic and dreamlike aspects of everyday life that explores the complexities of belonging and desire. Making their debut with the gallery, Cheong See Min and Samak Kosem complete the booth with works that investigate how memories accumulate over time to form complex local identities.
Alongside this, Filipino artist Elmer Borlongan will showcase A Day in the Life, a solo presentation of new works on paper. Over the last three decades, Borlongan has chronicled stories of everyday life, survival and resilience in the Philippines. These new portraits depict the strains of work and enchantments of play through evocative swathes of coffee and ink.
