Ames Yavuz is pleased to present a curated presentation of works by Australian artists Rosemary Laing and Caroline Rothwell at Melbourne Art Fair 2026.

This presentation brings together key works from Laing’s most iconic photographic series groundspeed and flight research. In groundspeed, patterned domestic carpet is laid directly onto forest floors or coastal edges. This vivid and unsettling gesture foregrounds the intrusion of human systems into living environments. In flight research, a figure in a bridal gown appears suspended in free fall above the landscape, conjuring both exhilaration and unease. Together, these works reflect Laing’s enduring investigation into land, movement, gravity and the shifting conditions of contemporary life.

Alongside Laing’s works, Caroline Rothwell’s new body of sculpture continues her long-standing exploration of the dynamism of the natural world and the possibilities for human equilibrium within it. Working in Australia, one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth, Rothwell considers how humans interact with, impact upon and exist alongside complex ecological systems. Drawing on cultural and academic histories of plant and human relationships, her works examine how knowledge has been formed through observation, use and interpretation of the natural world.
