Asian Art Newspaper – interview with Pinaree Sanpitak

5 Mar 2025

In Asian Art Newspaper’s March 2025 issue, Pinaree Sanpitak talks readers through the important stages of her artistic career with Olivia Sand.

“Pinaree Sanpitak originally made a name for herself celebrating the female body and by extension, women. Back in the 1990s, as a mother nursing her newborn son and reflecting on the shape of the breast, the artist started developing her ‘breastworks’ in drawings, paintings, and installation.

Turning the shape of the breast upside down marked a pivotal moment in her practice with the creation of sculptures, leading her to coin the term ‘breast stupas’. As a result, she has continuously expanded her definition of the basic shape of the breast towards the vessel or clouds, to name just these.

Today, her pieces bring together a variety of media and convey even broader meanings, marking the culmination of her practice. In the following interview, she talks us through the important stages of her artistic career.”
