Caroline Rothwell, Winner of the 2021 Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize

Congratulations to Caroline Rothwell, who has been awarded the 2021 Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize.

The Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize is the highest value professional artist prize for women in Australia.

The winning painting, Vault by Rothwell interrogates the seduction of the 19th-century Wunderkammer (cabinet of curiosities), where specimens and artefacts were displayed in European aristocratic house museums. The process of collection and display reflects a Western disconnect from nature that is under review for our 21st-century moment in which a battle rages to recognise the value of traditional knowledge and the natural world.
