Yavuz Fine Art is pleased to present Between Conversations, a group exhibition that offers a glimpse of the interstitial implications within the space/s of conversation between artists; between artists and artistic processes; between artists and curators; between artistic and curatorial processes.
This exhibition is about the many spaces within and between conversations. New works from 20 Singaporean artists working in a broad range of practices – from painting and sculpture to jewellery as contemporary art – will be exhibited in small groups of two or more, engaged in an exchange around particular issues salient in Singapore’s collective socio-political life at this particular moment in our history: national identity/identities, immigration, population pressures, public transportation, labour and wage inequality, gender roles.
Open Studio
At the heart of this project is the appreciation for the reciprocal nature of conversation, and the unfolding of this reciprocity into collaboration between artists and artworks, both engaging deeply with each other. From 6 to 28 August, Yavuz Fine Art will serve as an open studio for the artists and curator, allowing them to come and go, set up meetings and discussions at their own pace, and test out collaborative ideas.
In conjunction with the exhibition, Yavuz Fine Art will be hosting a series of roundtable discussions with the artists in September, mediated by curator Louis Ho. Other invited guests will also be participating in the discussions, including Susie Lingham, recently appointed Director of the Singapore Art Museum.
