YAVUZ Fine Art is pleased to present Belgian artist, Saskia Pintelon in her first solo exhibition in Singapore.
Belgium born Saskia, has spent the last 30 years living in Sri Lanka – a defining influence and a continual inspiration for her work. Her paintings are characteristically figurative, very personal and yet encompass a wide range of universal concerns in strong-layered images. An oeuvre built in different phases on impressions, emotions, opinions, stories of the life-cycle, of local and universal issues, of family, stories from the gut and the heart, of politics and day to day concerns, of a closeness to nature, of war and peace, humor and pathos, of a woman with her feet firmly on the ground in a foreign land.
Saskia’s latest work is a culmination of her previous oeuvre, a distillation in the visual sense as well as a distillation in essence. They are large, abstract, text-and-image paintings consisting of horizontally constructed patinated backgrounds, impressions of an ever-changing view of the sky, the ocean, the land, with statements, painted or embroidered lettering on cotton canvas through which one can access her intriguing world.
Previously Saskia has exhibited in Belgium, France, Germany, India, Sri Lanka and Bulgaria. The artist will be donating all proceeds from this show to ‘Building a Future’ foundation in Sri Lanka.
