The Sea is in the Sky

20 March - 19 April 2025

Ames Yavuz is pleased to present The Sea is in the Sky, a new exhibition by acclaimed Australian artist Julian Meagher. This deeply personal body of work explores the interconnected themes of family, spirituality, and the infinite dialogue between ocean and sky.

Inspired by a poetic observation from his five-year-old daughter, Meagher’s latest exhibition delves into the profound connection between generations through the act of painting. The show features a special collaboration with the artist’s mother, responding to one of her landscapes and celebrating their shared artistic legacy.

“I see painting itself as a physical act of hope with poetic intention,” says Meagher. “The sky becomes a mirror, reflecting the space beyond the horizon. It is here that the sky becomes infinite, and the ocean currents will forever be responding to the energy of the moon.”

Through his distinctive artistic approach, Meagher transforms each canvas into what he describes as “a rainbow in the sky,” creating works that bridge the personal and universal, the earthly and the celestial. The exhibition demonstrates his ongoing exploration of light, colour, and the ethereal quality of connection.

The Sea is in the Sky represents a significant evolution in Meagher’s practice, combining technical mastery with deeply personal narrative elements. The exhibition not only showcases his sophisticated understanding of colour and form but also reveals the intimate connections between family, art, and natural phenomena.
