Art Collector, The F, and City Hub highlight Ames Yavuz’s new Sydney gallery and inaugural exhibition, MEMORY/MYTH.
Ames Yavuz marks a significant milestone with the opening of its second gallery in Sydney, expanding its Australian presence across two dynamic sites. The gallery’s inaugural film exhibition, MEMORY/MYTH, is curated by Ananya Mukhopadhyay, London-based Director of Ames Yavuz.
Founding Director Can Yavuz shares, “We are thrilled to be opening a second space in the heart of Sydney and are excited to grow this cornerstone of our ambitious global program. This new space continues our commitment to the region and to the incredible artists and audiences in Australia.”
MEMORY/MYTH features contemporary and historic films and video installations by 26 internationally renowned artists from across the world, including 20 works never-before-seen in Australia. Mukhopadhyay, explains that the show pulls “common threads across diverse regions and history of colonialism to celebrate how disparate communities interrogate, divine, and rewrite their own experiences of erasure and displacement.”
Yavuz believes this gallery “has a responsibility to provide platforms that invite ambition and facilitate uncensored and uncompromised ways of celebrating art”.
