Julia Trybala joins Ames Yavuz
28 Feb 2024
Ames Yavuz is pleased to announce representation of Australian-artist, Julia Trybala.
Trybala centres her work on the complexity and dynamics of relationships, drawing inspiration from personal experiences and conversations with family and friends. With the practice of painting uniquely poised to interpret the body, Trybala uses this medium to capture both nurturing and grotesque characteristics of touch.
Her figurative practice carries an astute dialogue with art history, examining how feminine bodies have been represented through time. Portrayal of women is significant in her work, maintaining that maternal care and labour have been crucial for artists representing the human experience. This ongoing dialogue serves as a guiding influence in shaping her painting practice.
Trybala’s fleshy female planes contort and push to the edge of their frames, transforming corporal forms into a fluid landscape. Working with an application of texture and colour that can be hot and grubby or sometimes saccharine sweet, Trybala renders intimate scenes of care, fear and desire.
Trybala recently presented her first solo exhibition in Asia, Metabolism with Ames Yavuz, Singapore, in January 2024.
