Navin Rawanchaikul at MAXXI National Museum of 21st Century Art

18 Mar 2021

Navin Rawanchaikul’s solo exhibiton at MAXXI National Museum of 21st Century Art in Rome, Italy is open from now till 2 May!

Rawanchaikul is best known for dynamic art practices that involve direct public interventions, social commentary, and an innovative style of integrating community or individual experiences into eccentric fictional tales featuring recurring characters. Over the years, his oeuvre has grown to encompass a broad array of media, including performances, billboards, films, comics, games, merchandise and cocktails.

This imposing painting on view, ‘Ciao da Roma‘, reinterprets the poster style of the Indian film industry while capturing the South Asian migrant community in its daily life in Rome and its surroundings. It speaks to the diaspora but also the integration and cultural challenges from stories collected by the artist during his stay in Rome and the Lazio region in 2018.
