Nicholas Ong in Conversation with Blurb Magazine

“These paintings are just essentially emulations of what personal sensibility I have at this current point in time. It’s a pure sensory reaction to the construction or deconstruction of the painting. But I do have formalistic references as well. I look at film a lot with regards to how subjects are lit, or how structural narratives are created. It’s eloquent because film is a construction of a hyper reality. You know nothing about the film is real. It’s completely fabricated and yet the sensorial experience as you watch it is real.”
Lydia Tan from Blurb Magazine interviews Nicholas Ong on his first solo exhibition, Absurd Theatrics, in Singapore.
