‘No Feeling Is Final. The Skopje Solidarity Collection’ featuring Brook Andrew
22 Mar 2024
Brook Andrew features alongside Jesper Alvaer, Isabela Grosseová, Yane Calovski, Hristina lvanoska, Siniša Ilić, Iman lsa and Gülsün Karamustafa in No Feeling Is Final. The Skopje Solidarity Collection at the National Gallery, Prague.
Showcasing significant work from MoCA Skopje’s collection originating from the former Eastern Bloc and the Global South, this presentation reflects the historical and political context of the extraordinary international solidarity that followed the devastating Skopje earthquake in 1963. In the aftermath of the earthquake, a massive global effort helped rebuild the city, including the establishment of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA) as a key cultural element. Thousands of artworks were donated by artists worldwide, creating a unique collection of late modernism from Western, Eastern Bloc, and Global South artists.
This exhibition explores two perspectives: the chronological history of the MoCA Skopje collection, developed alongside the city’s reconstruction, and the contemporary artists’ contributions. The exhibition features contemporary artists including Andrew to select works from the MoCA Skopje collection that resonate with their practices, and offer a contemporary lens on the collection.
No Feeling Is Final. The Skopje Solidarity Collection is on view at Trade Fair Palace until 29 September 2024. The exhibition is in cooperation with Kunsthalle Wien and MoCA Skopje.
