Pinaree Sanpitak in conversation at M+ Hong Kong

23 Aug 2025

To celebrate the opening of Dream Rooms: Environments by Women Artists 1950s–Now at M+ Hong Kong, the exhibition curators and participating artists will present conversations on 20 September.

The second talk of the day, Crafting Environments brings together artists Berlin-based Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota, South Korean artist Kimsooja, and Thai artist Pinaree Sanpitak, who have each been commissioned to create a new work for Dream Rooms: Environments by Women Artists 1950s–Now. Moderated by M+ Senior Curator Russell Storer, the discussion will examine both the differences and shared ground in the artists’ concepts and practices. It will explore how each artist brings their personal and culturally specific experiences to the creation of environments as spaces for audience engagement which also have universal resonances.

The conversations will address how the exhibition at M+ foregrounds the innovations of women artists during the 1950s–1970s, and how this spirit continues with artists working today.
