Solomon Kammer reviewed by John McDonald
20 Feb 2021
“[Solomon Kammer] favours sharp contours and contrasts devoting all her attention to the figures while being disdainful of backdrops – a trait she shares with portraitists such as Lucian Freud and Jenny Saville.”
Preeminent art critic John McDonald reviews our exhibition Cause and Effect by Solomon Kammer, for the Saturday, 20 February 2021 issue of Sydney Morning Herald.
In Cause and Effect, Kammer specifically examines the female body as a site of gender-based exploitation, infantilisation, abuse and trauma. Drawing on her experience as a person living with chronic illness, Kammer speaks to women’s lack of autonomy within a medical context.
The exhibition is on view at Yavuz Gallery Sydney from 4 to 27 February 2021.
