Zico Albaiquni at Biennale Jogja XIV

5 Nov 2017

Zico Albaiquni is presenting “Doa Ibu Sepanjang Zaman“, a travelling project that documents the interactions and reactions of people to one of his paintings in seven locations throughout Jogjakarta as part of the Biennale Jogja. The project examines Sundanese customs and rites from West Java, and in particular the worship Nyai Loro Kidul, an Indonesian goddess of the sea (“Queen of the Southern Sea”) in Javanese and Sundanese mythology.

The painting was displayed in 7 sites contextually related with Nyai Loro Kidul, every day in one month from midnight to 4.00 a.m. The places consisted of: the Southern Alun-alun (City Square), Plengkung Gading (the Southern Gate), Pakualaman (small hereditary Duchy within the Sultanate of Yogyakarta), Cepuri Parangkusumo (the palace of the Queen of the Southern Sea, and the wedding place between the queen and the king), Kota Gede (a cemetery for the kings of the mataram kingdom), Mount Merapi (the sacred volcano in Jogjakarta), the Keraton or Royal Palace of Jogja, and lastly the Jogja National Museum (as the exhibition place of the biennale).

Biennale Jogja XIV Equator #4 runs from 6 November to 10 December 2017.
