Isabel & Alfredo Aquilizan: ‘Beyond The Bow’ in ‘Sailing for Hope’

15 Dec 2023

‘Sailing for Hope’, the group exhibition at the 2023 Luoshanfeng Art Season festival features work by Isabel & Alfredo Aquilizan alongside Bunpei Kado, Yoshitaka Nanjo, Shinji Ohmaki, and Oscar Oiwa. Curated by Hideyuki Shoji at the Seaside Gallery in Taiwan, the exhibition centres on ships and migration routes exploring themes of ‘Sea-crossing technology’, ‘Confrontation with nature’, and ‘Migration’.

‘Migration’ embodies the artistic duo’s practice, exemplified in their new work, ‘Beyond The Bow: Arcadia 2023’, crafted using ships and materials collected locally in Pingtung. Set within an abandoned vessel, the installation incorporates debris and personal belongings, symbolizing past journeys—evoking memories while offering a more optimistic vision for the future.

View ‘Beyond The Bow: Arcadia 2023’ at the Seaside Gallery in Pingtung, Taiwan; the exhibition runs until 25 February 2024. ‘Sailing for Hope’ is part of the 2023 Luoshanfeng Art Season in Taiwan, organised and curated by OIC ART and is sponsored by Pingtung County Government. In cooperation with Art Front Gallery.
