Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan on LifestyleAsia – “Artistic Movement: Home Is Where The Art Is”

12 Jul 2023

Lifestyle Asia covers the husband-wife artist duo’s practice — revealing their journey of moving away, rebuilding, and returning, driven by their deep bond to their ongoing concept of home.

“When we start creating these works, we are always in touch with where we’re coming from as Filipinos. You always try to be in touch with your sensitivities of who you are as a Filipino,” Isabel explained. Originally from the Philippines, the artists are now based in Australia, where they have traveled the world, collaborating with communities on art, which highlights shared experiences as well as conveys the Aquilizans’ experiences as Filipinos living abroad.

Amid the pandemic, the couple’s dedication to community work has fuelled their decision to leave Australia and return to the Philippines. Here, they plan to work closely with local artisans, extending a helping hand and supporting them in their journey to recover and rebuild.
