A culmination of years of intensive exploration into Thailand’s current socio-political climate, Fear is a new solo exhibition by leading Thai photographic artist Manit Sriwanichpoom. The exhibition features a series of new works that embody the growing sense of dread and disillusionment of Thai people for the future of their country.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Yavuz Gallery is organising an artist talk with Sriwanichpoom, moderated by writer and curator Zhuang Wubin, who will discuss the current Thai political landscape and its impact on contemporary art.

One of Thailand’s most internationally established contemporary artists, Manit Sriwanichpoom (b. 1961) has made a career of icon-study in the Thai context, creating an original body of work that reveals Thailand in all her contemporary sociopolitical complexity. A former photojournalist, his body of work provides a critical examination of Thai national institutions, looking particularly at the political development of the last few decades.

Zhuang Wubin is a writer, curator, educator and photographer. As a writer, he focuses on the photographic practices of Southeast Asia. Zhuang is an editorial board member of Trans-Asia Photography Review, and a 2010 recipient of the research grant from Prince Claus Fund, Amsterdam. In 2013, Galeri Soemardja at the Institute Technology of Bandung, Indonesia, invited Zhuang for a curatorial residency.
