Vincent Namatjira OAM at the Maitland Regional Art Gallery

30 Sep 2023

Vincent Namatjira together with Karla Dickens, Megan Cope, Ben Quilty, Andrew Quilty and Jake Chapman engage in timely discussions of sovereignty and power through their works in the exhibition CrownLand.

A highlight of the show is an aptly titled work ‘The Crown’, that is collectively painted by Ben Quilty and Vincent Namatjira which fortifies the essence of “CrownLand” – bringing together artists as friends and collaborators. The presentation at Maitland Regional Art Gallery also mirrors conversations taking place across the country fueled by an uneasy humour, the uncomfortable and the unreconciled.

Bringing together these artists as friends and collaborators, the show chronicles conversations around sovereignty and power fuelled by an uneasy humour, the uncomfortable and the unreconciled.

Namatjira’s works in CrownLand will be on view at Maitland Regional Art Gallery until 5 November 2023.
