Vincent Namatjira’s latest exhibition on The National Indigenous Times
16 Jul 2024
The National Indigenous Times has featured Vincent Namatjira’s highly anticipated solo exhibition, King Dingo, which is set to open at the Ames Yavuz Gallery in Sydney. The coverage emphasises Namatjira’s role as a prominent Western Aranda artist and celebrates his second solo showcase at the gallery’s second space at Commonwealth Street.
Running from 31 August to 5 October, the exhibition will unveil an ambitious presentation. It features a series of works depicting a dingo in regal attire, reflecting Namatjira’s sharp wit and profound connection to Aboriginal culture. The show also highlights its collaborative nature, with contributions from Indulkana-based artists Alec Baker and Eric Barney, further enriching Namatjira’s distinctive artistic voice. Additionally, King Dingo will present Indigenous All Stars, a video projection previously exhibited at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra earlier this year. This video celebrates Indigenous heroes through animated portraits and an original score by Jeremy Whiskey, now adapted for this exhibition.
Rhiannon Clarke’s coverage in the National Indigenous Times underscores the significance of Namatjira’s work and his impact on contemporary art, reinforcing his position as “a leading storyteller of his generation”, as noted by the Founding Director of Ames Yavuz, Can Yavuz.
